Can You Name 30 Countries ?

Hi there, and welcome back to my blog, The Water's Fine. I started this blog over 11 years ago as a college student gearing up to intern abroad in Madrid. It went dormant for a number of years, but I am back to share my journey of visiting 30 countries by the time I turned 30! I accomplished my goal, touching down in Lisbon, Portugal on March 18, 2022. Technically I missed my deadline by 8 days, but with a global pandemic health crisis, I figured some leeway was allowed.  In the coming weeks and months I plan to share my adventures and some misadventures along this journey as well as the lessons I've gleaned from from meeting people all over the world. I'll also share some tips and tricks I've learned about traveling and all the things that can go wrong!  The first five countries on my list are below, listed in chronological order of when I visited: 1. India 2. United States 3. Canada 4. United Kingdom 5. Mexico These are the five countries I lived in or visited in the ...

Leaping off the high board

Welcome to the first day of the next chapter of my life. The previous chapter that I have finally closed is the one during which I identified myself as a college student and then as a post graduate with a college student mentality! In that time I have moved back to my hometown (Mechanicsburg, PA) and had the wonderful opportunity of interning at The JDK Group. It has been hard for me to leave behind that part of my life because it affected me to such a great extent. I learned to be independent, confident in my abilities and excited for the future. Now the time has come for me to "grow up" so to speak and start living as an adult and someone who is ready to face the challenges of the workplace. From today I am focused on my new job at  NAI / CIR (a commercial real estate firm) and how that big change will affect me as a person and as a young career professional. It is exciting and scary because there is so much opportunity for me to grow and learn. I plan to be a cool, c...

Two Road Diverged in A Wood

I am quoting the somewhat cliched Robert Frost poem in my title. Sometimes things happen and we don't really know the reason. Some people call it fate or destiny. I think it is just life surprising us. I went to Madrid  two summers ago and I didn't like it one bit. I talked to a lot of people and they told to me to wait a few days, weeks, the entire summer even and it would get better. I, having a gut feeling, didn't want to listen to anyone and just wanted to go home. Most people would have stuck it out, but I didn't and that has made all the difference in the world. I accepted my failure, made the decision to come home one week into the program, and moved on. It was the best move for me at the time. Looking back things may look different but as they say, hindsight is always 20/20. But one failure doesn't mean the end of the world and here I am, two years later and probably a little bit wiser. I am trying to get back into this blogging thing, if only as a way...

Madrid!!!!!

So after a long 7 1/2 hour flight from Washington DC I finally made it to Madrid!! But when I got there the airlines had misplaced one of my bags! So I placed a claim with the airport people and hopefully my bag will show up within a day or two. We finally got to our apartment after a couple of hours because one of the flights was delayed. But the apartment is so nice!! More on it later!

Playing Catch Up on Life

Since my last post two months ago a lot has happened and I have had so many wonderful experiences (and a few not so great ones also). I traveled to Europe, went to California and Florida, won three awards, found an apartment, attended a Ke$ha concert, survived final's week, moved out of my current apartment and many other things. But considering its 11:20 and I have yet to start my homework that is due in less than 12 hours I shall write in more detail about those events at a later time.

The Nation's Capital

This past weekend I traveled to our nation's fine capital, Washington D.C. to watch the eight best bhangra teams from all over North America rip up the stage. Let me start out by saying that every team that came to the show brought their best and danced their hearts out on that stage. It was very inspiring to watch the best of the best showcase their talents. During this wonderful experience I also learned that while traveling things do not always go as planned. You have to learn to go with the flow and make do with what it available at the time. No matter how much you plan something is bound to go wrong , but you can't let it ruin your day! We had multiple problems with our GPS and it took us way longer than it should have to find our hotel, the show venue, etc. In the end we all had a good time and had many stories to tell afterward. Sometimes its not destination or goal that matters as much as the journey and the people accompanying you on your journey.

High-Flying International CEO

Last week I officially changed my major from Marketing to Global Management. Now I still really like marketing so I have decided to do a marketing concentration within my GM degree. My meeting with my wonderful advisor went really well and I found out that I can easily fit every class I need into my schedule and graduate in 4 years. I have enough room in my schedule to also do the Spanish minor and I only have to take 18 credits for one semester. This is so exciting!! We were also talking about my plans for the summer of 2012 between my junior and senior years. That is the main summer for business students to get a killer internship and then hopefully a job offer from that internship. We were talking about me doing another awesome internship abroad to cater to my new major and international interests. I am so excited!! I am hoping that everything will work out this summer and next summer!
