Taking the Plunge
For those of you that don't know me, I am a very cautious sort of person. Taking risks and pushing my limits are two things that I simply do not like to do. As a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh I have been given the opportunity to go way out of my comfort zone. This summer, I will be spending 12 weeks (3 whole months!) interning abroad in Madrid, Spain. As of now I have no idea where I will be doing my internship or where I will be living. All I can say is that I am super excited and very nervous to be living completely on my own in a foreign country.
Before I go off and live in Europe for the entire summer I am taking a European spring break trip to visit my best friend Lindsay who is studying in Florence, Italy for the spring semester. While this trip will be a number of first's for me, it will be, first and foremost, my first time flying solo. Now don't get me wrong I've been on many, many airplanes across the country and across the world. But I've never navigated airports all by lonesome before. I counted my flights and I will be on 9 different planes and multiple trains and buses over the course of a 10 days. That is almost one flight a day!
I can truly say I am a world traveler when I get to be in 4 countries in one week. My trip starts out at the lovely Pittsburgh International Airport. From there I take many more planes and somehow make it half-way across the world to Florence, Italy. We then spend a day in Florence, a day in Venice, two and half days in Paris, three and half days in Berlin, and another day in Florence. And then back to States until May.
Finally after I go on my Spring Break adventure and before I embark on my summer adventure I have two smaller but equally as important domestic trips planned. I am part of an Indian folk dance team at my university called Steel City Bhangra. My team has been working very hard all year to choreograph, learn, and perfect an eight-minute competition routine. After applying to at least a dozen competitions we recieved calls back from two of them saying that we were ACCEPTED! So, at the end of March we will be travelling (all 15 of us) from Pittsburgh to Stockton, California (near Sacramento) to compete at Warrior Bhangra, a prestigious international competition. Then the next weekend we will be travelling to Tampa, Florida for the chance to exhibition our performance at another equally as prestigious competition called Bayside Bhangra.
So, along with all this whirlwind travelling I have to keep up with school work and my family and friends. Its a busy, exciting time and I am enjoying every second of it. I will do my best to keep up with posts but for now I cannot guarantee more than a weekly post. We will see how things go and how much I learn about this blogging process along the way.
